It seems OU has a lot of "paperwork" issues with players. Does any other school have these?

This is two in the last two months, one the suspended players not coming back as soon as they should due to "PW issues" and now this guy. Do we need better admin people to handle the paperwork?

Yes, OU needs better admin and compliance department that doesn't report an over-consumption of noodles. There isn't a more incompetent outfit out there. They're a joke.

So a 5 star LB at Alabama graduates with only having 7 total tackles and 1 sack in his entire career. I guess OU isn't the only college team that experiences 5 star busts. :big confused:

Good to know. ;)

They were likely 3 or 4 stars until committed to Bama. Wonder if they downgrade stars now?

Trevon West’s departure is your first clue that the Sooners’ freshman wideouts are the real deal by Parker thune

Trevon West wasn’t a predictable transfer portal candidate. After all, the former three-star recruit walked into a receiver room utterly overflowing with talent, learned the playbook, and showed enough promise as a true freshman to see action in eight games. Though he caught just four passes on the year, he’d worked his way into a significant route-running role by the time the Cotton Bowl rolled around.

Now he’s out the door and gone, the latest expatriate in a gradual exodus of excess assets. Robert Barnes hit the road. So did Brendan Radley-Hiles and Jon-Michael Terry. T.J. Pledger saw the writing on the wall, as did Charleston Rambo. At one point, all of those individuals held a starting role for Oklahoma. If a team lost five former starters in a single offseason via the portal, it’d generally be cause to slam the panic button with fervor.

Yet nobody appears concerned, and for good reason. Nobody should be concerned. The Sooners’ roster turnover is the mark of a healthy — and formidable — program. The reality of the situation in 2021 is that Oklahoma is overstocked with talent. Rambo, once the heir apparent to Marquise Brown, ran out of leeway in Norman because Marvin Mims turned out to be the most dangerous wideout in a room that also includes three former five-star recruits. Rhamondre Stevenson rendered Pledger a luxury, Terry was supplanted by an All-American in Nik Bonitto, Barnes gave way to the criminally underrated Delarrin Turner-Yell, and Radley-Hiles just didn’t fit Alex Grinch’s system anymore. The Sooners aren’t losing players to the portal due to lack of ability. They’re losing players to the portal because they’re increasingly resembling a championship team with championship depth. Good is giving way to great, and great is giving way to elite.

Conventional wisdom would suggest that West’s departure opens the door just a little bit wider for Mario Williams and Cody Jackson — and lest we forget, the compelling athletic conundrum that is Billy Bowman could play wide receiver as well. But I’m not convinced the door needed any further opening. I think it’s far more likely that Williams, Jackson and Bowman blew the door wide open when they enrolled early and jumped into winter workouts with the team.

Folks, West didn’t choose to enter the transfer portal until February 16. Might there be a reason for that? He didn’t go the conventional route and transfer right when the season ended. Being in a room alongside Mims, Jadon Haselwood, Theo Wease and Trejan Bridges wasn’t an apparent concern to West. Yet after three weeks alongside Williams and Jackson and Bowman, he’s suddenly ready for a change of scenery. Obviously, correlation doesn’t equal causation. But at the very least, there certainly appears to be a correlation.

If that trio indeed substantially contributed to West’s exit, the entire Big 12 ought to be put on notice now, because Oklahoma’s passing attack might actually be unstoppable in 2021. If Williams, Jackson and Bowman presented more of a peripheral threat to West’s playing time than four experienced, NFL-caliber wide receivers… oh, boy. Granted, perhaps there’s no reason to read between the lines. Perhaps West just needed a fresh start, or didn’t like the climate in Oklahoma, or wanted to be the guy in a Group of 5 offense. But again, if that’s the case, why wait until mid-February to pull the trigger on transferring?

The spring game isn’t far away, and that will provide Sooner Nation a first look at just how talented their newcomers at wideout really are. Speed never takes a day off, and Williams, Jackson and Bowman all boast sub-4.5 wheels. If nothing else, the Sooners will have a receiving corps full of burners come the fall. From the usual suspects to the next generation, this Oklahoma receiving corps is littered with a Murderers’ Row of home-run hitters. If there’s a lesson to be learned from today, it’s that Lincoln Riley’s class of 2021 pass-catchers might be truly special. Now the question remains... how soon will the Sooners’ fresh faces make their mark? The answer looks to be pretty straightforward: soon.

It's strange we haven't heard anything on Bookie. It could be he hasn't found a place and he is returning? As I understand Lincoln has kept him on scholarship and he's still using all the facilities only team members can use.

He has two years of eligibility left.

Unintended consequences of the portal combined with COVID-19 extra year of eligibility?

According to Keith Grabowski, host of The Coach & Coordinator podcast, an astounding 72% of the players in the 2021 transfer portal do not have a home. Out of 1,074 players in the portal, just 299 (28%) have a school to attend on scholarship in 2021. According to 247’s unofficial transfer portal tracker — since the NCAA doesn’t allow us to see the actual portal — there are currently 126 quarterbacks in the 2021 transfer portal.

Per a source, #Baylor DE Bralen Taylor has entered the transfer portal. Taylor medically retired because of concussions last February, but has been cleared to play again. He will have 3 years of eligibility. A converted TE who stands 6-7, 260 pounds.
