Portal has become huge so figured a thread solely on it might help keep up. Feels like Star Trek

I’ve got to say that I’m not that worried about the transfers as much as I used to be. This is a result of the better recruiting classes coming in and guys who are not going to get as much playing time as they thought looking for better opportunities.
As the recruiting continues to improve, this will continue to happen. And besides, we’ll get some talent in from it too!Last edited on Sun Jan 3rd, 2021 04:31 am by bigedell

Proposal Idea
Every team who takes a transfer must pay the team he left $100,000. This pays the school something back for what they invested in the player.
Make it staggered like $25k after 1 year and $50k after 2 and then $100k 3 or more years.
This would only apply to P5 and large Independent schools. If they go to smaller ones no biggie.
And if going in conference it doubles.
Would also make receiving team have to manage who they take since it will cost them. Boosters can pay school for transfers so they feel wanted lol.
This way players are not getting paid yet schools losing players can recoup some of cost.

Let them go where they want to go without restriction. I think they should also be able to declare for the draft, and if it doesn't go as expected for them, they should be able to come back. There would have to be some tweaks to NCAA scholarship limits under these circumstances but that would be workable.

Let them declare for the NFL but they can come back if they haven't hired an agent/accepted payments/signed contracts. Force the NFL to show their hand via the draft before the player makes a permanent decision. This could disrupt the draft process but that's fine, I hate the NFL.
I still prefer sitting a year for undergrad transfers though. But other than that, they should go where they want to go.

I'm fine with this so I would be fine with OU also signing 25 every year and when some of them don't end up contributing in a worthwhile, cut bait. After all, even the players say it's a business. While it should matter, unfortunately, loyalty doesn't matter anymore.

Why are they in the portal? They say playing time? Coaches say attitude? We had one a year or two ago at LB came in was supposed to be a beast never saw the field in an OU jersey because he couldn't get it. (Ricky Deberry 2015 class?) these are the questions that arise when I see a 4-5 star in the transfer portal.

Wish him luck, thanks for being a sooner
... probably doesn't hurt the WR depth given the riches

The risk for athletes entering the transfer portal is that their scholarship at their current school is no longer guaranteed. Once a player is officially in the portal his scholarship can be rescinded and offered to another incoming student-athlete.(Yahoo) I would say they are good until the end of the semester that they’re in. I think it was Bryant at Clemson that put his name in the porthole at the beginning of the year finish the semester and then went to Missouri. Could be wrong

“LSU freshman tight end Arik Gilbert announced that he will be entering his name in the NCAA transfer portal. After one year in Baton Rouge, the Georgia native appears to be moving on from the program.”
I would love to get this kid. He was LSU’s fourth leading receiver, but missed the final two games of the season. Coming out of high school, he was a 5 Star; the #1 tight end; and rated as the #5 overall prospect. But it’s reported that he is homesick (he’s from Georgia), so it will be a tough sell to get him to OU.Last edited on Tue Jan 5th, 2021 12:03 am by Beerme
