I watched Greyhound last night. Tom Hanks plays the commander of military escort ships trying to protect convoys crossing the Atlantic from the US to England in 1942. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I thought they did a great job portraying what the escort ships had to do to protect the convoy. 21st Century special effects allow you to watch the sea battle and understand the tactics, unlike many other WWII movies. Tom Hanks was, as usual, terrific.

My son is an assistant AD in the Louisiana film industry and worked on this film.  His job is mainly putting the sets together and making them look right.

I watched Hanks' interview on Colbert about the movie.  The ship was actually real.  It is the USS Kidd, a destroyer turned war memorial that is anchored in the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge.  They did about 2 weeks worth of filming aboard the ship.  Obviously, they used CGI for the action sequences but the Kidd was used as a model for the computer.

Thinking about the Kidd brought back fond memories of Scout overnight "camp outs" aboard the ship.
