Yeah, but corncobs play hell with the plumbing!  And they commence to get purty odorous if ya stick 'em in the trash can...

America may go freaking nuts in the next few days.

My own anecdotal obversvation, that popcorn sailed sometime overnight Wed to Thurs.

Wednesday, I went to the grocery store for a couple items, not a big shop, just needed some items for dinner we didn’t have. I saw nothing worth noting while out on Wed.

Wednesday night, Trump’s address, European travel ban, NBA cancellation, NCAA cancelation, spring break extended at most schools with intent to go online for the rest of the school year... and on and on.

Thursday afternoon, my wife went to town to do her normally weekly larger grocery shop. She observes no toilet paper, no paper towels, no dried pasta or dried beans, limited canned goods and limited alcohol. Additionally, she actually sees the mass hysteria noting to me a couple running through the store yelling to each other across the store “I’ve got this... I’m headed over to get that... were you able to get xyz....” and another woman wondering the isles saying to herself outloud over and over again “reduce your anxiety... reduce your anxiety... reduce your anxiety...”

We later met up with a friend that said she went to a store on her way to work that morning to get something for lunch and said there were 30 some odd cars in the parking lot and she witnessed a group of people fighting over the last bit of toilet paper and the cops showing up to break it up. She said this was about 7:30am.

We had a young man ring our doorbell at about 4am this morning, supposedly looking for his lost dog. We live in the sticks. It’s dark with no street lights and we live on a bid of land where the house is not near the road. And I can’t tell you how strange it is to have someone just ring the doorbell at 4am for such a strange reason. Yes, we have guns.

tbm...something similar happened to me today. I stopped in the Reasors in Catoosa (small town) and just wondered by the paper products and water. No Toilet Paper and very few towels.

Some guy was loading up the last 5 or 6 cases of water. The place was packed. The manager I know told me it had been that way for a week. All I can say..

The toilet paper thing really gets me. This virus may be the thing that kills us all (yes hyperbole) but there is no way in hell how much toilet paper I have on hand is going to make one bit of difference. If I get low and need more and can’t leave the house, I’ll order some to be delivered. If I can’t get TP delivered... I got bigger problems than TP.

We buy a new pkg of tp every 4 or 5 weeks, guess what it's been about 4 weeks going to have to start looking for some. Almost embarrassed to put a pkg in the shopping cart and have people think we are one of these nuts.

Some how we are on Walmart email list, usually just ads but today there was a letter advising they had increased their stock of paper and cleaning products and shelves should be full again soon.

Also gave a site and urged people to turn folks in who were reselling these items at inflated prices.

I'll just say most here are not taking this serious enough. Yes, most people recover from the virus, but almost 20% require hospitalization and 5% require ICU. This will overwhelm the healthcare system in a couple of weeks unless significant lockdown measures are implemented. Otherwise, the US will look like Italy.....only 20x larger. They are having to turn away patients from ICU and even basic medical treatment based on probability of survival.....just like battlefield triage. They are deciding who lives and dies, and they have a higher ICU bed per capita than the US.

Putting your head in the sand and "rationalizing" away the significance of this event may make you feel better today, but reality will inevitably come. Please practice maximum social distancing.....not to the point of convenience but MAXIMUM......for the defense of your local community and nation.

Since I'm partly in charge of something where people gather... been doing more research. Does appear this is extremely nasty thing. We cancelled everything this week with expectation of cancelling everything for several more weeks.

Main issue is the other guys--part of treatment involves medical equipment that has no quick replacement/build up. Spread people getting the virus out so the healthcare system isn't totally FUBAR'd at once. Multiple factors go into risk--biggest one is age, weight is another one (45% of US is obese), compromised immune systems, etc.

Joe Rogan interviews the guy who wrote the book and is an expert on viruses (literally wrote a book describing much of what's happening): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3URhJx0NSw

An update from a number of physicians: https://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2020/03/a-covid-19-coronavirus-update-from-concerned-physicians.html

As mentioned in another post, other countries with lesser healthcare systems are getting slammed big time--Italy (7% death rate), Iran, --any numbers from China are bogus, they're showing about a 3% death rate, but anyone who actually reports on it disappears.

The main point of #canceleverything and #socialspace is to spread the infection rate out so there is not a huge number getting the virus at once. I've seen 8 weeks and 4-7 months as optimal times to keep these types of measures.

This stinks for any business--restaurants will be hit big time, most don't have 4-6 months of operating income in the bank.

I expect major outbreaks in 2 weeks as the spring breakers head back home and pass it around. There will be no summer break from this virus, other coronaviruses have survived 4 sterilization treatments.

It sucks, but the life you save may be important to you.

--Note this is not my area, I just find people who know a lot more than I do.

I realize this is March 17 but, yesterday at the Presidents news conference someone stated this could stretch into July and August. It may seem silly today to be thinking about football but couple of weeks ago i'd have said people were crazy to say things would shut down and people would hoard toilet paper... so makes you wonder when will sports resume and will football go as planned next fall?

At 8AM this morning, Harris Co, TX has closed all bars and nightclubs. Also, closed all indoor dining. Only curbside pick up or drive through.
I fully expect surrounding counties to follow suit soon.
Initially, for a 15 day period.
But, it doesn't sound like there is much optimism about enough happening to cancel the order in 15 days.
I expect it to be extended indefinitely.
Most all schools are closed through April 10.
Again, most likely to be extended if the threat still exists.

It appears that we are finally following medical professionals advice to slow the spread of this pandemic disease. If we follow their advice, major disruptions in routine, but a quicker return to normality.

Wish we had started sooner. But this gives time for medical equipment stockpiling, vaccine development, and less of a strain on hospital space.

All geared toward full speed ahead for fall football.

Something that is some what troubling is this. I keep hearing as the weather warms the threat of this virus
will subside as most flue virus often do. But then you
look to Iran, and how bad it is there, in a very warm
region, you must wonder?

new restrictions from the Oklahoma Gov and the OKC mayor. reduced from the 50 gathering to 10, sounds like shut down bars, casinos and restaurants (seating, still get to go). the economic impact of this with all those people out of work is going to be huge.

I received a text yesterday that the Governor and all mayors\city managers had an early conference call yesterday afternoon. I knew something was going down...

That’s still way less than countries in the northern hemisphere.

Just a little history on the 1918-19 pandemic. This is why drastic measures are required

From the CDC------The 1918 influenza pandemic was the most severe pandemic in recent history. It was caused by an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. Although there is not universal consensus regarding where the virus originated, it spread worldwide during 1918-1919. In the United States, it was first identified in military personnel in spring 1918. It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States.

don't you just want to wake up and read something about how the quarterbacks are doing in spring practice and spend tomorrow watching ncaa tourney games hoping a 16 knocks off a 1 seed.
