Frustrating game.  We got a good look at the pitches.  Then, we tried to pull outside pitches all day long.  Glad a freshman finally had sense enough to go to right and knock in a second run.

Clifton's two home runs have been line drives while others are hitting  popups and ground balls.

Juarez, great game.  Worried me in the sixth when she walked the ninth place hitter ahead of their only two HR hitters.

Let UMBC, ND, and Wisc fight it out for a couple of games.

Sorry for Tech.  They should have been the home seed---not the overrated LSU crap.

I wasn’t able to watch the game (followed it on live stats), so would someone explain this situation for me. Please.

Thanks in advance.

A ground ball was hit towards 3rd base. It threw up chalk at least once and hit the bag at 3rd base (or the chalk right behind the base) and threw up chalk again and then went foul. The home plate umpire called it foul.

Thanks MPS. Unbelievable but I shouldn’t be surprised.

Top of seventh.  OU leads, 2-0, but hasn''t had but one decent hit all day long.  Had scored  on an error and an intelligent line drive to right by Green in the sixth (after which she was picked off first).

Grace Lyons leads off with a slow bounder to second which she beats out as the second baseman was playing a bit deep.  Romero had a hit the first time up, but nothing since.  On a 0-1 pitch, she lined a shot down the third base line,  It probably hit the ground about twenty feet in front of the bag, skipped off the top or side of the bag as it went past third, making it a fair ball.

The third baseman made a play which knocked it into foul territory.  It bounced a little down the line.  Lyons scampered around to third, Romero to second.  We finally have a scoring opportunity with fewer than two outs.  Runners on second and third and nobody out-------except that the home plate umpire says it was foul.  He hadn't even had a good look at it since Romero was a right-handed batter, and he hadn't gotten in position to see through her as it hit on third.  Apparently, he was the only one that didn't see chalk dust fly from the bag.

He says foul.  Gasso argues.  He says it is his call.  But, he didn't ask for help.  Some say he said he couldn't by rule since it was his  call.  An umpire can ALWAYS ask for help from other umpires.
Net result, Romero singles to right, Lyons to third.  But, Aviu lines into a DP at first as they double Romero off.  Fortunately, Caleigh lined a two-run home run to make the final 4-0.

Thanks Syb. I would have loved to have seen Coach Gasso’s exchange with the umpire.

Quick question to anyone:
Twice in the late innings today the camera (and the announcers) wandered to the bullpen where Brooke Vestal was warming up.  What gives?  I thought that she was redshirting this year?

Patty was giving him hell. The crowd was giving him hell. And the announcers were adamant about his bad call.

Redshirting does not keep her from tossing some balls in the pen.

Redshirts can also attend away games as well. I saw Vestal warming up with the team when OU played in Austin

Yep. When I saw the Sooners play vs the Jayhawks in Lawrence, she was with the team and I believe she was introduced before the game.
