245/331/327 1 Dawson, 3B

111/200/111 0 Pollack, RF

282/343/388 Team Season Stats

This is the lineup from the conference championship game. Not sure if the order changes much, but the players don't.

Why Daigneau and Hammett bat as high as they do is beyond me. Winslow is their best hitter and she's batting seventh.

Power is pretty much non-existent.

Daigneau and Keffler have 19 and 18 stolen bases respectively. I guess that answers why Daigneau bats second. Their coach must be old-school.

They've barely faced LHP, 111 team at bats versus lefties.

They only have 3 pitchers who have pitched at all this year: Coppersmith (229.1 IP), McCarthy (85.1 IP), and Hammett (23.1 IP)

Coppersmith has good numbers:
ERA 1.62
IP 229.1
Hits 117
BB 83
K 342

IF you scroll down the rpi list to somewhere around 215, you will find UMBC.  You will also find that they have not beaten a team ranked higher than #123.  Against teams in the top 250, their record is 8-18.  Among teams in the top 130, they were 1-12.

They are OK against weak opposition.

Thanks for the info!

I am not too worried about UMBC but you don’t want to ever get in the loser bracket. The odds of surviving once you are in the loser bracket is slim.

Be interesting to see who we pitch in this game. I assume that they save Juarez for Saturday

Saturday?  Good luck with that, will be lucky to get any games in on Saturday.  Probably have to have nearly all of Saturday's scheduled games played on Sunday...
100% chance of rain all day.

I agree that Juarez is likely going to be saved for the second/third games.

:ou: I think you will see all three pitchers but in the 2 and 3rd games a combination of Jaurez and Saile

I saw this comment on another board from earlier this season

Courtney Coppersmith of UMBC might be the biggest surprise in all of softball. She leads all of D1 with 230 strikeouts and has a couple of no hitters. She throws hard and has great movement, especially on the riseball. The Power 5 schools should all be looking at her by now because she could be a starter on any of them.

Looking at AustinTXSooner's post above, I can see that she has 342 strikeouts. That is a lot.

So what have they done in past regionals if the weather is really bad and they are not able to play all the games by early next week?

Sunday weather looks good. Partly cloudy, temp 80F , wind NE 10 to 15 and chance of rain 10%.
Makes sense that Sunday could be loaded with games.

Get serious  Look at her individual games:

tats.ncaa.org/player/index?id=14800&org_id=391&stats_player_seq=2118253&year_stat_category_id=14661

Yeah, she struck out 14 NC State player while losing.

She also struck out 17 UCNW (?) players in a one-hitter.

Whoa!  Powerful Lehigh bombed her for five runs while she got 6 Ks.

Superpower, George Washington bombed her for 7 runs in 3.2 innings, 3 Ks.

Maryland bombed her for seven runs in six inning, 6 Ks.

Pitched three games series against Mass Lowell, losing all three with about six innings each game:  gave up 16 runs, 19 Ks.

Go back through her games.  Against her competition, Parker Conrad would have struck out 400 and been NCAA POY.

I suspect that she would have had an ERA of about 7 in the Big Twelve.

Unless you're the Oklahoma Sooners and you're coached by a lady named Gasso.

JK, Tom. You're right, of course. You don't ever want to fall into the loser's bracket.

All I am saying is that UMBC won't win the national championship but it is possible that that pitcher might get hot and make Friday's more challenging than one might expect from a team with an RPI around 200

UMBC is the school that won the first ever No. 16 seed over a No. 1 seed (Virginia) in the NCAA basketball tournament.  They've had their one shot at glory.  :D

Don't know a thing about it.  But, I went to a friend's younger brother's fraternity party there when I was in the Army.  He liked to take me to places where I was the only white in an all-black crowd.  Went on a couple of double dates with him because he was dating a white girl.  Thought it was safer if he took me along, with a black date.  Who is with whom in a southern restaurant?
