To me the best thing about our hitting is that they are at least swinging the bat. Last year we did a LOT of watching instead of swinging.

You can't go to the plate thinking that you're going to swing at every strike. Your chances of being a good hitter are greatly reduced if you do that. You're just playing into the pitcher's strength.

You have to be selective. With less than 2 strikes, you have to be looking for a certain area, or a certain pitch, or both. Part of that is scouting the opposing pitcher. Part of that is knowing your strengths and weaknesses.

You still do that with 2 strikes, but you also have to be able to foul off any strike that isn't what you're looking for.
