...got home yesterday evening, found my wife of almost 39 years (March 29th is OUr anniversary)laying in the floor, unable to get up and in excruciating pain.

She must have blacked out because she doesn't remember what happened, but it appears she was standing on a chair and changing a lightbulb when she fell.

Called 911 who sent Fire Dept. and EMSA ambulance.
They shot her up with morphine, jockeyed her onto the gurney and transported to SW Integris. Arrived at that ER aprox. 8:00pm.

Horrible hospital! Never go there. Strange looking people work there in the ER. SurrOUnding area rather less than desirable.

Discovered they wouldn't accept OUr Double-Cross/No-Shield insurance, and so had to wait until Saint Anthony's sent another ambulance to transport her to Bone & Joint.

She arrived at Saints aprox. midnight. All this time she was in tremendous pain.

It's hard to watch someone yOU love suffer greatly, in tears, moaning and at times screaming in pain. For hOUrs!

Bad break! Surgeon advised would require at least 2 surgeries. Took her back at aprox 5:30 A.M. this morning to put on an external fixator.
Two pins in her upper thigh, two more in her lower shin. Carbon fiber rods running down length of her leg and two incisions on either side of her calf to relieve pressure & swelling. Afterwards in the waiting room, said she did well the surgery went as well as cOUld be expected, but that her shin was in many pieces.

Still have to go back and place plates and screws in her shin bone where it meets the Knee joint. Told me there was more than a little chance of infection. Worse case scenario might even mean amputation, but that he believed he cOUld fix it.

Small request for those of the Christian persuasion.
Next time yOU hit yOUr knees, I respectfully request yOU remember my wife(Known to the SWARM & the Crimson Reign as China Red, but her name is Trenace.)& ask the Big SOONER in the sky to bless her with healing power.

2nd surgery could be as soon as next Tues, or as far away as a week from Monday.

SOMEHOW, SOONER SPRING FOOTBALL, THE SOONER BASKETBALL TEAM'S STRUGGLES, KYLER MURRAY'S DOMINATION OF TALK IN THE NFL DRAFT, FINANCIAL CONCERNS, GETTING OLDER, ALL THE REST OF THE DETAILS & CONCERNS OF LIFE ARE REDUCED TO INSIGNIFIGANCE WHEN YOUR MARRIAGE PARTNER FACES A GENUINE LIFE-ALTERING INJURY/DISEASE CHALLENGE.

Thanking all who read my post and "feel" what I'm trying so inadequately to express.

Oh my goodness Chinaman! Will definitely pray for your wife and you. The pain she experienced must have been tremendous. Bone & Joint is such an excellent place, so glad she ended up there. Please, get some rest when you can, caregivers need to rest as well as the patient.

What is your wife’s name if you don’t mind sharing so we can pray for her by name? Just saw the Trenace! 😳

Chinaman, that is a heart breaking story. I guarantee you that all of us will be thinking about your wife, you and your family.

I am aware of the hospital your wife was first sent. I had a friend there some years ago and I feared for her health. Glad you got her out of there.

Please keep us up with the progress. If you need some help, just let me know.

Terrible news David. I'm glad you got her in the right hospital. Tell her I'm praying for both her and you. You will need some strength going forward to her full recovery. Trust me on this one, I have been in a similar situation.

If she needs some books or magazines on her downtime, just PM me. I have several paperbacks I would be glad to send you.

Sorry to hear that, Chinaman. Life is so precious and things can change in a blink of an eye. Prayers to both your wife and you during this battle to recovery.

"Discovered they wouldn't accept OUr Double-Cross/No-Shield insurance."

That's the type of *beep* should have never happen in EMERGENCY situations. Other situations I totally get, but not for incidents like that.

I understand. Last Novembet I had my priorities realigned when I spent time in the ER, ICU, and the hospital with Acidketodosis. Dr said I could have died. It did not matter to me that it was Bedlam weekend.

Hope your wife does well with the surgery.

Also noted you have had problems with BS/BS insurance too.

So sorry that happened Chinaman. A year ago my wife broke a bone in her knee, and two years before that broke a bone in her foot. Those were difficult enough to deal with, but neither was anywhere near as severe as your wife's injury. Praying for you and Trenace, and may you both find your strength in Him in the days and months ahead.

I am terribly sorry to read this news. I am sending my prayers for your wife and you. I am hoping that the road to wellness is short. Take care of yourself, being a care giver isn't easy. She is very lucky that she has someone by her side who loves her.

…Update.

Her 2nd surgery is scheduled this coming Tuesday for now. DR. Knutson is the orthopedic surgeon.

After looking at my wife's x-rays and the CT scan, it looks very daunting. The top of her shinbone that goes into the knee joint looks like a jigsaw puzzle. Several fractures and chips. Nasty break.

As long as she keeps still, her pain is manageable, but if the nurses or case managers move her leg she still screams.

(However, I know she feels a little better because she made me go home & get her makeup bag. She did her eyes, brushed her hair, put on lipstick & rouge. She also ordered a meal & ate it.)

Came back home from Bone & Joint a few minutes ago to get the mail, tend to the cats, and get a good night's sleep.
Stayed at the hospital with her Thursday & Friday nights, and tried to sleep in a recliner a nurse brOUght me, but every hour on the hour and sometimes twice an hour various nurses came in to check her vitals, give her medication, etc. If rest is critical to the healing process, don't know anyone cOUld get any staying in the hospital.

Wanted to express my gratitude to everyone who posted empathy & sympathy. Means a lot! :D

...my wife's 2nd surgery was postponed until this Friday.
Her leg was still too swollen and enflamed to do it Tues.
Hospitals can be frustrating places, even though for the most part the care & attention my wife has been given has been exemplary.

She's still hurting pretty badly.
The apprehension of the coming surgery, the long challenge of rehab and the prospect of basically being a shut-in for at least 6 months has made her depressed.

But, honestly I'm not sure I cOUld have endured what she has so far.

Thanks again for the kind thOUghts, well wishes, and most of all prayers.

...thanks, Clint!

Know you've faced some seriOUs health challenges yourself in recent months.

Even thOUgh we've been sideways a cOUple of times, I always read your posts. I've come to appreciate your perspective. Gives me food for thOUght.

And like me, yOU're down with a little self-deprecating humor now & then. Don't seem to take yOUself so seriously. I've noticed!

Thanks, pal!

Like yOU, my wife's in fight she's going to win.
