The way we are playing, I think I may watch the border bru-ha-ha. Thank goodness for gymnastics and softball.

This game will be doubly hard to watch.  You are playing at Baylor so not only do you have the Sooners' poor play, you also have the Baylor neon green uniforms....

In December the Bears Played at the Ducks on that awful floor, I could only take this visual torture mere minutes.

31 all at the half.

24 of Baylor's pts came off 3 pt shots.  They are 8 of 15 from beyond the arc.  They also have 3 fts. The Bears are only 2 of 9 from inside the arc.

Sooners are only 1 of 8 from 3 pt land and have 4 Fts.  They  are 12 of 26 inside the arc.

Manek scored 11 and Freeman scored 5.  Doolittle was high with only 14.
So perhaps they were on the floor because they had no one better?

Three straight seasons of 5 or more consecutive game losing streaks. I'm not optimistic the incoming recruiting class can fix this. The Oklahoma basketball "program" is far better than this.

At least the team appeared to play hard last night.  Rebounding was an issue particularly at the crucial point with a minute to go in the game as was leaving Baylor open on 3's many times but the effort appeared to be there.  Our personnel issues won't improve this year.  Hopefully the incoming crop of players for next year improve things.

we look soft inside no one battling for position or rebounds. I feel losing the 2 coaches has been a big issue Henson was a fiery guy that got their attention.

as ugly as the game was just hit some free throws and we probably win last night.

I said something similar to this a few games back and still believe it, other teams in the Big12 look like men, we look like kids, I want to see more strength conditioning, toughen these guys up.

plus more off season running, besides not being as strong as other teams we fade as the season goes along, these guys need to be in better shape.

Another disappointing season in progress. There are so many factors involved in where the current state of this program is at it’d take a Clint A. Adams kb-limit post to discuss them all. But I suppose anyone that’s been paying attention can see many of the problems. You don’t have to be a basketball enthusiast to see deficiencies with this team. And one of the biggest is the lack of an inside presence. It certainly doesn’t help that the Sooners’ only potential inside threat, Jamuni McNeace, is injured which leaves Doolittle and anyone else they can find to patrol the paint. That’s being woefully outmanned in this conference. They’re now relying on Manek, Freeman, James, et al to help out. That might be fine for brief stretches in a game, but it’s not something you can live with game in and game out. That’s not a knock on them. It’s just the reality of the situation. This team doesn’t have a big-ugly inside that can take up space, be a rim protector and get big rebounds. Not that Muni was necessarily that guy either, but he was at least athletic enough to provide some protection down low. I know they lost the services of Kur Kuath for the season due to injury but quite frankly from what we saw early I doubt he was going to be much help this year anyway. So the absence of Muni has left them scrambling underneath and it’s showing.

Another major issue is that IMO this team is just offensively challenged. Perhaps in the non-conference part of the schedule, when Muni was 100%, he was a threat to score inside and teams had to pay attention to him which gave the outside shooters a chance to get some open looks. I’m not seeing many open looks these days. Of course, it could just be that the Big 12 competition is that much better than what they saw early and the real ability of this team is being exposed. Or maybe it’s a combo of the two. Regardless, it feels like there’s a several minute scoring drought in every game now. We saw this happen during the Sampson years for a while, but the one difference was Kelvin’s teams were just plain tough. They could stay in games and even win because they were gritty. I wouldn’t describe this team as tough. In this five game losing streak they’ve been outrebounded every game. Again, it hurts not having Muni but a lot of teams have injury issues. Sadly, the team hasn’t stepped up to pick up the slack. You get individuals to play well every now and then, but not consistently, and certainly not the team as a whole. To be honest, the way they play up and down from game to game you’d swear they were a young team. But they’re actually one of the oldest. How do you get beat by 30 on your home court, and four games later take that same team to the wire on their home court? I guess if I knew the answer to that I’d be making millions of dollars coaching.

I know there’s lot of unrest among the basketball fans because this has been going on since the FF year, but most fans seem to be willing to see what the changing of the guard with the new class coming in will bring. Next year is going to be really interesting because if we see this same type of collapse during the conference season the wolves won’t just be at the door, they’ll be actively trying to break it down!

Thank you E-Man.  Your insight is always appreciated.
I was wondering.  On another board, there have been comments that the team has not been "tough" since the last two asst. coaches left and became head coaches.
What do the asst. coaches do to prepare a team?  Do you feel the problems lie in talent, coaching or both?

I've read those discussions about the assistants, I don't know enough about the former or the current assistants to have a real opinion, were the former assistants that great of a motivators or did having players like Buddy Hield not require motivation, from what we heard at the time Buddy was a gym rat, he lived in the gym and forced teammates to be there with him.

I don't know how to explain it but somewhere something happened numbers wise, when that group with Buddy graduated there was supposed to be this great recruiting class coming in, then some of them transferred out and we were left with a group that just didn't mesh and scrambling to fill holes. We have another big and the rep is good recruiting class coming in but personally I'd prefer a couple good recruits every year as opposed to one year with 4 or 5 of them. It just seems the scholarships haven't been managed as well as they should have.

This is the biggest gripe I have at the moment, the coaches took to many chances on projects with big guys, Polla and Kuath as examples. A project here or there is ok, you might get lucky down the road and one of them pan out but when you need backup centers and James, Doolittle, ect are filling in because you don't have a backup you got problems.... and we've had problems.
