National Signing Day: Breaking down the Sooners' recruiting class
By Eric Bailey Tulsa World
Offense: It’s rather unprecedented to see three five-star wide receivers sign with one school, but that’s what OU got with Jadon Haselwood, Theo Wease and Trejan Bridges. Throw in a five-star quarterback in Spencer Rattler and it’s an A-plus group.
Defense: New defensive coordinator Alex Grinch inherits a wealth of young talent in this recruiting class. Keep an eye on defensive backs Woodi Washington and Jamal Morris, as well as defensive ends Joseph Wete and Marcus Hicks. Junior college transfer LaRon Stokes could also make an immediate impact.
BY THE NUMBERS
1: Players signed Wednesday, outside linebacker David Ugwoegbu
3: Junior college transfers (OT Finley Felix, RB Rhamondre Stevenson and DE LaRon Stokes)
4: States with multiple signees — Texas (10), California (2), Florida (2) and Oklahoma (2).
9: Early enrollees from the 2019 signing class: Bridges, Felix, Haselwood, Morris, Stokes, Wease, Austin Stogner (TE), Derek Green (DL) and Jonathan Perkins (LB).
THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH
Jadon Haselwood: Considered the nation’s top wide receiver, he shifted from Georgia to OU to join Lincoln Riley’s attack. Look for him to possibly have a similar impact to what CeeDee Lamb did in 2017.
Spencer Rattler: While the five-star quarterback probably won’t get much time in his first season, he’ll be groomed to take over Riley’s attack and learn from Jalen Hurts and Tanner Mordecai.
Woodi Washington: The defensive back probably isn’t getting as much attention as he deserves. He enters the program at a perfect time and will learn Alex Grinch’s system alongside everyone else.
