Sooners up 5-1 in bottom of the fifth.

Mariah, sans one pitch, has been outstanding today against a very quality opponent.

Illinois State will be about 30 minutes after the end of this one. 😜

This is a BIG game. Mariah is pitching great. Mariah pitched a lot of innings last year but Patty never really used her (or trusted her IMHO opinion) against any of the top teams. I think Patty thinks Mariah is ready.

So, we either score four or five in one inning and rest the remainder of the game?

Lol. We'll, syb, if we scored four or five in every inning, we would never get to enjoy watching our Sooners very long. Every game would end in a four inning run rule.

south Carolina is a very good team. It was a very good win.

Much of our pre-Big 12 season is very weak but this is a "quality" win. If we require a big inning in order beat a non-ranked team (or less than 100)then maybe we should be worried.

:ou: That's what was impressive about Lopez's performance. It came against a top 20 opponent and not against a east popcorn state. When she got pulled she was not in a jamb unlike some other times when she got pulled against some Decent teams

Sybarite - I guess that we are all asking why you seem to be so disappointed by today's game?

It's becoming apparent that Patty has decided that she has the best closer in the game and she's going to use her in that role as long as Lowary continues to produce.

After about five innings, if the starter, no matter how well she's played, shows any sign of faltering, Patty's bringing in Paige.

:ou: This seems to be the pattern to Patty is following. With the continued improvement of Lopez and the emergence of Parker Conrad it has helped Patty avoid using Lowary as a starter. Of course when Post Season gets here I think you will see Lowary used more in a starting role or brought In earlier at the first sign of trouble.

I agree it is unusual.   Sorry if I was nitpicking.

I was just happy about the win.

Some things have begun to reveal themselves.  The biggest downside is that may favorite, Shay, seems to have a problem hitting right now.  Started well.

The biggest surprise has been Alo.  Yep.  She has power.  But, I have been surprised that she could make it as a singles hitter.  She hits the ball hard and gets on base.  At first, I thought her strike zone was a bit forgiving.  Now, she seems more selective, and she may be in the middle of a rally, not just at the end.  The biggest surprise---she has beat out two infield hits that I doubt anyone other than Mendes would have beaten out.  She can move.  Watched her run to first yesterday.  She was flying.

Pleasantly surprised by Flores defense.

Lopez is a different pitcher,  When Nirschl said she was a bit quicker than Paige Parker, did she mean that she throws harder or takes less time between pitches?  She forces you to hit strikes of her choosing.  She may end up as  our ace.  She blew SC away except for one pitch.

Pleased that Sparks and Arnold began rallies.

Romero is finally hitting up to what I thought she could.

Not sure what Tori meant with that quip, syb (I missed hearing it). But she clearly throws harder than Parker. She routinely hits 67-69 on the jugs gun (and occasionally 70), while Parker rarely throws harder than 65-66. That does not mean, of course, that Mariah is a better pitcher, or more effective than Paige.

Like you, I've been blown away by Alo's ability to hit the ball where it's pitched. It's obvious that she's much more than just a homerun hitter. And what Syd Romero is doing is great to see. I've always believed she has the most potential of any batter in our lineup.

Anyway, great post.

USC and whorns are scoreless after 7 in Columbia. Drotar pitching for Carolina and von Sprecken pitching for the whorns. Maybe, a hundred fans there.

I agree! I thought Connie would have been canned a couple of years ago but she always survived. They are 9-11 right now and I believe, have the worst record in the Big 12. This may be her final year.

I expect her to resign at the end of the season. The handwriting is on the wall in 72-pt. type. Connie can read.

Connie has been a survivor. With the way Patty has been humiliating her for the last 8 years I am surprised they didn't treat her like they did Augie Garrido after the 2016 season.
