:ou: The Sooners have had some big time transfers. Shelby Pendley transfers for Arizona and ends up being one of the best all around players in OU history. Kelsey Stevens comes in from Stanford to become the starting pitcher in 2014 leading us back to the CWS. We probably don't make without her. Now comes Paige Lowary transferring from Missouri who has the looks of being just what the doctor ordered for giving the Sooners the needed pitching depth to help lead them To another title. So It would not be surprising if another top notch pitcher transfered here after they graduate to join a very talented team that may just need an experienced ace pitcher to make another title run.

A top notch infielder or outfielder might look at our lineup and think twice about transferring to OU, but a pitcher might see an opportunity.

If you look at the CWS rosters every year, they seem to indicate that it is a lot easier to fill a lineup in which there area at least two or three hitting stars than it is to find that one pitcher that can take you to the CWS, much less win it.  In the two recent titles, we have been about the same as other teams, except that we had Keilanni, Michelle, and Paige.  They were a step above the other pitchers.  Our own recruiting suggests that knowing which one of these kids will be the next Paige is difficult.

This is true. I felt like we had the talent to win another championship Chamberlain and Pendley's junior and senior years. But we missed on some pitching recruits and it cost us those 2 years. We did pick up Kelsey Stevens and made a run but Kelsey wasn't elite enough to carry us through the series. The next year we had Parker but she was just a freshman. I still personally think we got screwed on seeding and having to play at Bama cost us a spot in the world series. But I don't think Paige could have carried us to a title had we got in.

This has me a little worried about the Romero/Knighten classes senior year. We'll be stocked with talent but pitching remains to be seen. We have Lopez, Mendes, and Olmos who would be junior's that year and Brooke Vestal coming in as a freshman. I can definitely see a transfer in between those classes. I think Vestal is going to be a stud but I don't think we want her as an ace her freshman year. I do still like the upside of Lopez and feel she could develope into an ace. I am also still intrigued by Mendes but have a funny feeling she's going to be more in play as a fielder/batter. Olmos can develop into a nice pitcher but I don't see ace qualities in her.

I tend to agree with all of that.

I do think that the most likely transfer to OU would be a pitcher.  A good pitcher might become an ace quality pitcher, but be pitching at a place like James Madison.  I'm sorry.  But, you just won't win a title at James Madison.  I halfway expected a transfer out from there just to get to a team with some hitting.  Lowary wasn't going anywhere with Missouri.  If I were Hoover, I would transfer.  She is a hot ticket, and LSU doesn't have the overall team right now.  Imagine what a great pitcher could have done at Michigan.

I personally think Michigan has a great pitcher in Megan Betsa, who has a career ERA of 1.98, the aforementioned Hoover has a career ERA of 2.04, I also believe that LSU is much better than you are giving them credit for. I think come June, Beth Torina will have them right back in the mix at the WCWS. Let's remember too that Hoover was originally a transfer from Standford and if I'm not mistaken a second transfer would mean she would have to sit out a year. I think she will stay put in the Bayou.

As for James' Madison, I agree that it would be hard for them to win a title, but they were just a win away from the WCWS and could make another run this year.

I agree as well with CClift, the 2015 class Senior year we will be the shallowest when it comes to pitching depth. I think by then Lopez will be polished as a pitcher so she will probably look to take the rains as the ace of the staff. Anyway that it plays out it should be fun to watch.

:ou: has a team ever won 3 consecutive National championships. I researched this a while back and don't remember seeing one. With all the talent Florida had, I was expecting them to have a good shot and they ended up loosing in the supers. If the Sooners win it this season. I think they may pull off a 3 peat.

I think LSU will have trouble getting to the WCWS. I have never seen a team make so many errors as last year. LSU has never made it to the finals of the WCWS. While Florida had great pitching and fielding, their hitting was not that impressive. I think Arizona and UCLA will have very competitive teams in 2017. I do expect the Sooners to repeat barring injuries.

Looks like UCLA 3-peated once and numerous teams [UCLA(2), Arizona(3)and Florida] have won the WCWS twice in a row.

Lopez/Olmos/Mendes are young. In fact, none of them has had a chance to throw their first pitch in a real game at the college level. If we get one ace out of the bunch then we might not need a transfer. There still is two years for them to develop before we really need their arms. Ps. I suspect that if Mendes can hit at the college level that she will replace Pendley in a couple of years. Olmos/Lopez had very impressive high school records. Olmos does not seem to throw the ball quite as hard as Lopez but you don't necessarily need to throw hard if you have good placement and control. Look at Paige Parker; she can't really throw all that hard but she is one of the best pitchers in college ball. It will take some time before we know whether this group will be the bridge between the Paiges and Brooke Vestal.

Jayda Coleman running the video. Looks like several recruits at the game. Rayle Pogue, Paige Knight, Rylie Boon, and Sami Skelly. Some others I don't recognize.

Aren't they coming out with new rankings?  I keep getting emails from FloSoftball about rankings, trying to get me to subscribe.

I'm still following recruiting but its been a bit of a non event lately. Seems our 2018 and 2019 classes are probably full. Still keeping an eye for Zaida Puni #2 in 2020's who's still uncomitted but OU has seem to be in a good position with. I figure we'll start seeing some 2021's start to come our way. Right now I know of 1 commit and thats Quincee Lilio. No rankings out for 2021's yet but she seems to be highly thought of. She's the youngest member and is playing up in age group for the Athletics-Mercado organization. This is the team that has been dominate and has Kinzie Hansen and Destinee Noury on the team also.

Nice work, but I am confused about a couple names on your list. I am not aware of commitments by 2021- Guzman and 2121 - Pilon. Do you know that these players have committed? I haven't seen their names before now. They aren't listed on FloSoftball.

Pilon committed to LSU and pretty sure Guzman committed to Michigan. Lilio is a commit to OU for 2021.

Good list. Lilio won't be with team until 2022. I'd probably put Raines with pitchers. She is listed as outfielder also but seems to be more of a pitcher. That list shows how deep and loaded we're going to be for awhile. We'll have top 100 prospects that don't start.

You left off 2018 utility player Sam Skelly who was ranked in the 90’s. We also have a 2019 commitment from MacKenzie Donihoo, a shortstop out of Mustang, Who is ranked 56th. Another 2019 commit is Kinsey Koeltzow, a Catcher out of Tuttle.
