BCS executive director Bill Han...Edit_Your_Post_To_Avoid_Profanity_Filter... said Tuesday that if USC loses its NCAA appeal of Reggie Bush-related sanctions, the school's 2004 national championship will be vacated.
With Bush as its star running back, the Trojans crushed No. 2 Oklahoma 55-19 in the 2005 Orange Bowl. It was USC's lone BCS championship under Pete Carroll.
The game came with some controversy because Auburn and Utah were left out despite perfect regular-season records. Both teams won their bowl games, leaving college football with three undefeated teams when the season ended. If USC's appeal fails, though, neither the Tigers nor the Utes will be recognized as that year's champ.
"Most people would think Auburn would be the team,"Han...Edit_Your_Post_To_Avoid_Profanity_Filter... said. "But how would they have done against Oklahoma or another team?"
Han...Edit_Your_Post_To_Avoid_Profanity_Filter... said that the presidents and conference commissioners who run the BCS could decide to do "something else" after the appeal. But elevating another team to become the 2004 champ won't happen.
