Posted by John Taylor on July 27, 2010 12:48 PM ET The week of arrests continues this afternoon with word that yet another player from the state of Oklahoma allegedly got a little -- or a lot -- tipsy and got behind the wheel of a motorized vehicle.
This time, though, it's the Sooners dealing with an off-field incident as OkBlitz.com is reporting that running back Mossis Madu was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with driving under the influence.
According to the affidavit of his arrest, Madu was observed going left of center twice by a university police officer and pulled over. The officer noted in his statement that Madu "had red and watery eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, and an odor of alcoholic beverage consumption on his breath and person."
The latter was proven very much correct as a pair of breath tests pinned the meter at .19 each time. The ensuing arrest occurred at 3:10 a.m. CT.
Madu, a senior, rushed for just 17 yards in 2009, but his 475 yards and six touchdowns in 2008 were both good for third on the team.

That's a good way to be an automatic 3rd string at best entering fall drills. The only thing worse than "2 a days" is "2 a days" and then having to go through a bunch of running drills after the fact...during August in Oklahoma. It goes without saying the dangers of the DUI itself.

I am also old and stupid and I hope not that stupid.
However, when I was young and stupid, I'm afraid that I may have been that stupid, but just didn't get caught.

I was lucky enough when I was young to have enough idiots around to remind me that drinking and driving were a bad combination.

OU has been batting a pretty good average the last few years. It is always disappointing, but in the end it isn't the worst that could happen to an OU athlete. We could have kids who crash into apartment buildings while texting and then a year later suffer serious injuries when the same texting might have caused him to fall down a couple of flights of stairs
I think we would be very naive to think that many of these kids don't fall off the wagon every once in a while. They are just like every other college kid in that they like to go out and have a good time. The problem is that this offense isn't seen in the same light as years ago.
My guess is that most of us could go on a pretty good vacation if we had a few $$$s for every time we got lucky when we were kids.
I could tell a few really funny stories about some of my college friends and myself for that matter. Those of us who escape those years without being injured/hurt and/or causing injury/hurt to others need to be really thankful.

I was lucky too and made the decision not to be DUI ever again when I got home to my apartment and couldn't remember how I got there. I drove.

.19 is pretty tore up. That would be several drinks in a short amount of time. Like maybe a 12 pack of beer in a couple of hours for a 200 pound man.
Hope he learned his lesson.
