| Thanks Sybil. I wonder why it didn't create a link when I copied the address into my post.

Is kind of strange. If you cut and paste the link it works. I think there was some problem with your original link. Just one of those strange things.
What you originally posted was identical except there was no www. in front of the soonersports.com.

We were getting down on Spates last year, too. Don't get too excited about that win. The fact that they were down 15-0 against Neb is something to worry about by itself. This looks like the classic case of a team that just cannot be solid throughout. You see it all the time in wrestling. "This team is great in the lower weights but terrible in the higher weights" or vice versa.
Let's see them beat Missouri and finish the season strong. That's what I want. If Spates can put together a really good run to end the season, I will not be as critical of his work, but the reality is that OU Wrestling has not lived up to it's history for several years now. People used to fear OU. Now, we are just another wrestling team. Has wrestling fallen that far in Oklahoma?
By the way, I am making my way back home today. We will be at the fairgrounds tomorrow to watch my nephew wrestle at Jr High State. It will be nice to get back to Oklahoma even if it is only for a couple days. We're staying in Norman. If we have the time, I think I might take my wife and kids to see the campus.

By the way, if they beat Missouri, it will be great to not have to see this quote again...
Oklahoma will trek from Lincoln to Columbia, Mo., to take on No. 17 Missouri (7-4, 1-0 Big 12) this Saturday, Feb. 6. Oklahoma will attempt to win two Big 12 matches in a season for the first time since the 2002-03 campaign.

I didn't mean for it to sound like I was ragging you for you posting your concerns about the program. I was just bemused that they won a match they weren't supposed to the day after you posted.
I do not know enough about wrestling to be able to tell who is good and who is not by just watching them. I am just a guy that believes that if the the athlete has OKLAHOMA accross their chest, then they deserve the best we can give them to have a chance to win. And even though I may grumble after a loss, I care more about our athletes 'leaving it all on the field' than actual Ws and Ls. Nothing irritates me more than watching a Sooner team going through the motions.

No offense taken. I think I have just become cynical about the wrestling team. I will believe it when I see it regarding them becoming great again. Your sentiment about the athlete with OKLAHOMA across their chest is exactly how I feel. I guess that's why I get so irritated with the way the wrestling team has performed. We have had some guys with REAL potential come through, and many just became good, not great. That falls on the coaching. Great. Now I sound like GOW does about the football team. I really honestly like Spates. I want the wrestling team to succeed with or without him. I'm just really frustrated by the mediocre performances in the last few years. Start finishing 3rd in the country every season again and make sure you beat Nebraska and Missouri and at least compete with ISU and OSU, and I will slow down. I just hope Spates didn't peak at 3rd in the country. And if he did, I hope Joe C sees it and does something about it before we go down too far.

If I have a specific complaint about what I have seen from a Spates-coached team, it is the last point. I have seen passive wrestlers who seemed afraid to face their opponent, even when ranked higher.

no doubt this was a very good win, but why does beating nebraska in wrestling have to be a "signature" win? that in of itself speaks volumes. let us see if OU can end a two year drought of no all americans.
i still think that spates needs to go.

In my opinion, we need at least one finalist and a top 7 finish, for Spates to stay.

I also think that should be the criteria, but I doubt Joe C will see it that way. I think if they finish in the top 25, Joe C will give him more time. I just don't think Wrestling is a priority for Joe C.
